Welcome to the 36 Grays Lane guestbook.

Please feel free to express your feelings below, but try to keep it polite!

It seems that the guestbook software is throwing a few glitches. We've had a few reports of random "permanent bannings" and posts disappearing. Please accept our apologies if either of these happen to you and, if you want to enter a message but it won't allow you, feel free to email your message and the name / location you'd like put to the email on the home-page

We've found that the vast majority of Ashtead residents are overwhelmingly supportive of SSAFA, Headley Court, the Armed Forces and our campaign. The 90 or so objectors, and their attitudes, do not represent most Ashtead residents from everything we've seen. Please, in thanks to all those people, bear that in mind when posting!

Thank you to everyone who's helped achieve this wonderful result. We've known from the outset that the concerns raised were misplaced. SSAFA and the families concerned will now have the chance to prove that. We know they'll be more than equal to the task.

Oh, and thanks for all the fish

The objectors should be ashamed of themselves. They are being unbelievably selfish and I hope that, one day, they will look back with real shame on their actions. I wish their families could know how they are behaving and express their dissapproval. I would cut off any memeber of my family who was acting in this way but I know that they wouldn't. How can these people sleep at night? I hope that the council approves these plans but I fear for the amount of money that will then be wasted when these evil people take it to appeal as they inevitable would. I wholeheartedly support SSAFA in their plans.

It appears the objections are feable at best, may I remind these people that the reason they live in a free and democratic society is because soldiers ,such as those at Headley Court, put their lives on the line every day.Is objection the way to pay for your liberty?

The residents of Grays Lane should be ashamed of themselves. As a serving soldier it was always nice to know that even if the public didn't support the campaigns in Iraq and Afghanistan, at least they were supporting the troops. To put self interest before the welfare and recovery of brave individuals who are making supreme sacrifices is disgisting. Perhaps the next time there is a fire strike or serious flooding, and these same people are calling on the Army to help them, they will remember their shameful attitudes towards service personnel.

Never before has Kiplings poem been so apt

The objectors should be ashamed of themselves for their selfish attitude. Part of the rehabilitation process is having family around. These brave men have more than done their duty to Queen and country and now, in their time of need, this should by recognised by everyone, including those who object to the plans. Good luck to SSAFA - they helped my father in the past - I hope with all my heart that they succeed

I'm a physiotherapist and am fully aware of the essential support families can provide to patients, particularly when they have been injured in traumatic circumstances and face a long, difficult rehabilitation.
Family are arguably "the best medicine". Please allow them to provide these soldiers with support - after all it's the very least they deserve.

I have just listened to the article on this application on the Today programme on Radio 4, and am staggered by the embarrassing and shameful reaction of its opponents. I simply cannot understand their objections, which seem to me wholly unreasonable, selfish, narrow-minded and disgraceful. To deny clearly needed help to the families of the fine young men and women who have been risking their lives on our behalf, is quite extraordinary.

I live in a small, picture postcard village in South West Surrey, with a thriving community of many families with children. I know that we would go out of our way to welcome these servicemen’s families, who are already suffering enough, and I urge the council to approve this application, if it does not want to become the object of scorn and ridicule.

Hopeing for a most satisfactory outcome for the lads and lasses of H M Forces.
Nothing surprises me anymore as to the woeful, selfishness of the arrogant, "take life and freedom for granted" people of Great Britain.
The government should also share much of the shame in allowing this situation to be created.

I am a SSAFA worker, ex-soldier and house owner. I am appalled at the selfishness of the 80 odd Ashtead residents who object to this wholly admirable scheme in support of our injured soldiers, sailors and airmen.
I am sure the 80 nimbies would be at the head of the queue for help in cases of flood, fire, rescue and other assistance which our Servicemen of all three Services give so willingly, cheerfully and efficiently whenever it is needed at what ever cost to their own lives and comfort.

I was appalled to hear of the saddo small minded attitudes from the residents of Gray's Lane. I have always been opposed to the Invasion of Iraq but accept that the military forces have engaged in an extremely difficult and dangerous task. The sacrifices they have been asked to make puts the petty-minded selfish attitudes of the Gray's Lane residents into perspective. The injured personnel and their families should be provided with support from these people. I suspect the majority of them probably supported the military forces going to Iraq in the first place!
Hopefully the higher the profile their actions are given the less likely anyone else will want to live next door to them if one of their more socially acceptable neighbours decides to sell up.
Strangely enough when the Today Radio4 programme tramped up half their drives nobody wished to stick their head above the parapet!
I wish you all the best but suspect that the best result will have no winners
