There are not many things that 'make my blood boil' but this stand by some residents against the SSAFA house is one of the most shameful, selfish and unpatriotic actions I have ever seen. Notwithstanding the debate on Iraq and Afghanistan, the UK is trying to do the right thing and stand up to tyranny. The Ashtead Planning Council need to make the right choice and support the serviceman.

I heard the report this morning on the Radio 4 Today Programme regarding this issue and was frankly appalled. Appalled and disgusted at the behaviour of the 'good people' of Ashtead. That they can behave in this way towards the families of soldiers who have been seriously injured, in the service of our/their country is just unbelievable. > > Do they really think that these visitors the house, who will be suffering all sorts of > emotional turmoil, will be having late night parties and disturbing their peace (lucky them that they have some to disturb!)? To call them 'migrants' (as was stated on the programme) and therefore unable to appreciate the nature of the local area was truly offensive. Shame on them and the local council if permission is denied. > It puts me in mind of Kipling > For it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Chuck 'im out, the brute!" > > But it's "Saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot; > > Truly appalling.

Here is a call for all the good people of Ashtead.
I do not believe you have been represented properly, and I believe most of you DO want this plan to be approved. Tell your council what you want !! And be proud.

Good luck to Capt. and Mrs Norton and all 'The Blue Team' tonight! I shall be with you all in spirit and watching closely online for the right result.
To the 'Objectors of Ashstead': There is still time to withdraw your letters of objection and come away with some dignity. Think hard about this please.

I hope that this works out for us all, the amount of supporters is at well over 40,000. The objections to much traffic, rubbish etc are pure flannel. Also it is now questioned as to how much money is being spent. Its the Charities money and they can do what they think is best for the good and benefit of the charties objectives. If £1.8 million is what it takes then thats it. Good luck tonight to the Blue Team hope we get the result that all the hard work deserves.

This just seems like one more despicable act on the part of those who have no care or thought for those who protect and serve this country. It's about time ALL injured service personnel from our current conflicts to those whom served many years ago are treated with respect and care, and given every assistance they deserve.

Why as a country do we always want handouts when things go wrong, yet we bicker moan and complain when others try to help those who serve our country to protect our freedoms, including our right to complain? In the USA, injured personnel are treated almost as 'heroes' in every town and city. Tremendous respect. How have we, as a society in Britain today, sunk so low'?
Surely every help should already have been given by the Council in supporting the families of those injured service personnel and their speedy recuperation? Selfish complaints of traffic noise is nothing compared to the incoming sound of mortars, rockets and shells that these injured people have endured. Have the Council and Councillors no shame? Turning away the families of injured servicemen? Didn't these same Councillors support building ESSO HQ less than half a mile away? Oil supplies rely on military security, US and UK forces alike. Oh dear where have we gone wrong since the Second World War, when our fathers fought for our freedoms? As Victor Meldrew is oft quoted as saying "I Just don't believe it"

An ex-soldiers thought comes to mind.
If our current service personnel, and the generations of fighting men (and women) before them, had not been prepared to "stand to" when required, how would the noble(?) residents of Grays Lane have fared today?
Property values would be of no significance as they would all be living in either a Labour Camp or a Workers Collective, depending on which earlier despot or tyrant had over-run us. Their leafy lanes and meadows would be part of a sad, wearying autocratic dictatorship, of one persuasion or the other and their greedily hoarded wealth would be in the hands of somebody else. If todays enemy have their way, all we unbelievers will be disposed of, and not gently. Is it too indelicate to suggest that mindless, bigots such as those in Grays Lane be repeatedly booted in the a**e until they realise who it is that pays for their freedom and happiness.
Good Luck to all those physically engaging the target tonight..... teach the ungrateful rats the real meaning of "Contact, Wait Out".
For every person in that hall tonight, there are tens of thousands more in support, ready to keep up the pressure. Watch out Grays Lane, we ain't going away!!!!!!!! (you can, if you like though!)
