We have one nephew in action and another about to be posted. We cannot stop this madness but by supporting this petition we feel a little less impotent. The objectors are obviously not close enough to the reality of life outside Ashtead.

Common sense and decency must prevail. This is needed for our troops, and the attitude of the objectors is so selfish to be unbelievable. Good luck with the application.

Don't be too hard on all the objectors. They were probably just carried along by a hard core of one or two selfish individuals. From what I've read, most of the residents seem decent and supportive so don't condemn everyone in the village for the malign influence a minority would appear to have.
It is also a disgrace that SSAFA are having to spend the money on such an amenity - shame on successive Governments who have continually cut budgets and failed to support the Armed Forces.

I work in Wootton Bassett and almost weekly see a convoy of 4+ Union Jack draped coffins travel through the High Street, as our dead service men are returned to their families, this breaks my heart, but what upsets me even more is to hear that people can be so selfish, and look no further than their petty lives. This sort of accomodation has been provided for families who have children suffering from cancer etc, and is a great idea. My husband was in the armed forces for 27 years and my son is now a soldier, I hope we never need this accomodation, but it would be a comfort to know that it is there. Lets hope that the welfare of our service men and their families are put first for once. Good Luck

Good luck with this. These wounded soldiers have been dumped upon by our glorious goverment after being seriously injured in the fight against terrorism. This Bunch of 'Nimbys' in Grays Lane should be proud to have the wounded Squaddies in their Midst, I would be !!!!! These Soldiers have been very seriously injured and all these people can worry about is their Property Values!!!! Words fail Me, I suppose these morons would rather these severly soldiers Injured were shut into a camp somewhere so that they dont have to look at them on a daily basis. It's thanks to these Peoples sacrifices over the years and over Various conflicts that they are able to protest about this. People Like the residents of Grays lane make me sick !!!!!

As an ex-army type and an avid reader of Rudyard Kipling's writings, I think he got it so right when sticking up for the ordinary squaddie against such prejudice and government inertia - until Tommie was once again badly needed. With out the sacrifice and bravery shown by OUR armed forces these politicos and hangers on would be out of their comfy earner.

I am familiar with the Fisher House, here in America, and the same needs that the families of our wounded troops have, also exist in the U.K. for the same reasons. Pain and suffering and financial distress is universal, no one nation has a monopoly on it. The task of a patriot is never easy, especially in time of war, and it is imperative that these wounded heroes and their brave families get assistance and respect from their respective countrymen. If you must, hate the war, not the warrior. Semper Fidelis
