I wish the SSAFA campaign all the best. Having spent some time at Headly Court myself I can only say how useful this facility will be for families of those on long term recovery. I am saddened by those who are objecting. Sadly it is all down to the value of their houses and therefore essentially greed. 'Twas ever thus amongst the very wealthy which is why they are rich. I hope that they are now becoming a little embarrased by their naked greed.

This is a worthy site. I served with a few troops who were seriosly wounded. It looks like care for these brave men is getting worse instaed of better.

Since a mate e-mailed me Monday, I’ve spent lots of hours reading through the 180 (so far) pages on the ARRSE forum and have to say you guys are bluddie awesome! The work you have done to tackle this issue is truly inspiring, and the representations you’ve made to the planning committee supporting the SSAFA present eloquent, heartfelt and carefully measured arguments. You have totally nailed all the objections raised!
All the very best of luck with your leaflet drops over this next week and your attendance at the planning meeting on the 1st. If there’s any justice atall in this world, the SSAFA application will indeed go through and the support and care that our soldiers and their families so desperately need and deserve can be provided. I hope the residents of the area will then welcome the families in to their community and support them as you, and many others, have done and will no doubt continue to do. I will of course continue to spread the word as far and wide as I can too, and keep a civi’s eye on the arrse discussion if I may, just to keep up to date. Mo xx

As the brother-in-law of a Marine Sergeant who was one of the first into Iraq, and the brother of a Fleet Air Arm rating who served off the coast of Kosovo, I fully support SSAFA in their quest to establish a home of respite for the families of servicemen and women who have sacrificed so much.

Every patient of Headley Court is there through no fault of their own, and can be there for an extraordinary length of time. Local facilities for loved ones to visit preclude many from such priveledges. Seeing the in-patients is a humbling experience. As a recently retired serviceman I am not ashamed to say I struggled to keep my eyes dry when meeting/seeing some of them.
I ask local residents- spare a thought for those so unfortunate. Think how you would feel living a distance away from a close relative that had been so dramatically injured/incapacitated.
Have the local residents been invited into Headley Court to see first hand what facilities are on offer - but to also see what facilities are not available? Do the locals appreciate just how catastrophically the lifes of in-patients and their families are affected?
Keep up the good work all those involved in this.
