Think the local residents should be ashamed of themselves, where would this country be if it wasn't for the members of the armed forces who volunteered to join up and defend this country as well as other nations around the world. As a serving member of the Royal Navy it makes me wonder why we bother, it is obviously not appreciated by some members of the population!!!

As an ex member of the forces myself who has in the past used the medical facilities provided I cannot believe the negative response from the local residents. I was lucky, my family live close by but without their support during that time it would of been very hard for me to cope. Family support at a time of being injured, physically and mentally, is vital. I do not know how the locals can sleep sound at night! But I have no doubt if the recent events of flooding was to happen to them they would be the first ones to ask for the army to help fill sand bags!

Oh dear, how sad, those poor Grays Lane residents are going to be subjected to noise, discomfort and disruption to their cosy life style.
Just try to remenber, that for you, these lads and lasses have endured noise (a battlefield gets like that), discomfort, (traumatic wounds do that) and disruption (back to back tours do that)
The selfishness of these, I hope, few, wealthy "Low Lifes" is mind blowing to we who still have pride in our country and the fighting men and women it produces. These pampered NIMBYs deserve nothing less than public humiliation, or in rough old soldier speak, "Pulling Through with a Christmas Tree".

Several years ago my young grand-daughter was in Guy's hospital with a very serious illness. Her parents were able to stay in Ronald McDonald house, which made all the difference to everyone concerned. She recovered, and is now training to be a nurse. Mrs. Norton, and all the other families of our wounded service personnel deserve this facility in Ashtead. It must be allowed to go ahead.

As the spouse of a serviceman who has seen action in Iraq, Bosnia, Kosovo and, most recently, Afghanistan, I completely support your cause.
A country which is happy to send its best to war and which does not then provide the support needed by both the service personnel and their families, is not a country which deserves the best.
The reaction of some of the inhabitants who may be "affected" by the house near Headley Court reminds me of the reaction of certain Germans when they were forced to see what had been happening at Belsen and the other camps. It is that same small-minded attitude which is so loathsome.

If it isn’t bad enough that someone’s child, mother, father, husband or wife are injured in the line of duty. They are then subjected to such prejudice, as if finding some where to stay whilst a loved one is lying in a hospital bed is top priority!! I am appalled & shocked that the local residents are against such a facility, they should all be ashamed of them selves.

Penny of Ashtead - A major objective of the exercise is that the families using the house would be sharing it for mutual support in a homely atmosphere, not turning it into four separate dwellings. However, your generous offer of help might be welcomed by SSAFA and I recommend you approach them. The trouble is that it would lack the mutual support element described above.
As for your expectation of abuse, I think the supporters of SSAFA's application have been remarkably tolerant in the views they have expressed on this board. I just wish the same could be said for the objectors.

I totally support your cause and have written a letter today to the planners. I understand the residents concerns but they have been answered very well and now there is no merit to what they say.
We must respect their right to object as everyone has is allowed to hold an opinion. However, we also have the right to disagree with it and to offer feedback to help change their views.
It is clear they have got together and formed a group to counter this application. You have to remember if the planning consent does go ahead visitors will be living in the street and at their unhappy time they dont want residents having a go at them about being there so please try and get them onside as quick as possible. Some open dialogue will be needed.
I wish you the best of luck and fully support your actions.

Isn't it strange how quickly the "upright Citizens" of our land want to distance themselves from the realities of having to stand up to extremism. However, since time immemorial the poor old serviceman has been treated like sewage by the very people that he protects. I wonder who the "Surrey Set" around Headley Court would be screaming for if terrorism and its followers actually did descend upon them, with daggers (and bombs) drawn. Of course, in that case, a few servicemen, with or without their families, would be fine to hide behind, wouldn't they?.... Shame on the lot of them, it makes you feel sick to breathe the same air.
