Funny how an entire neighbourhood can be so appallingly negative...I don't personally think that the local council would dare uphold these ridiculous objections though...

These people needing accommodation at 36 Grays Lane are not criminals, addicts or asylum-seekers. They are not spongers out for what they can get but give nothing back. They are not about to throw wild parties that spill out into the lane with foul language and unruly children. They are members of our country’s armed forces and their immediate families who have given their all for their country. All they want is a place to try to recover with their family’s help, regain dignity and move on to whatever is ahead.

As a child of a soldier having read the concerns of those living in Grays Lane I am insulted. If my father was ever injured i could not imagine the anguish my family would have to endure if we could not be by his bed side, number 36 should be somewhere that those suffering can retreat to, not somewhere that they should be judged by over paid men and lazy women that don’t work because there husbands earn too much. Oh, sorry, is that too much of a generalisation? Well maybe instead of making assumptions about the way we would all behave, they should put themselves in those poor service peoples’ and their families situations. They should be welcoming these heroes with open arms, NOT turning their snotty noses up at them because they fear for some deluded reason that their house prices may fall!
I wish SSAFA the best of luck with this project.

My wife was treated here for a sports injury sustained in the services and went on to a full and healthy lifestyle, her partially sighted mother could not visit as there was nowhere for her to stay especial;ly with her disability. I was in the Falklands and many of my mates were treated at Headley Court again it was hard for families to visit. Obviously these residents have never had to travel to visit a seriously injured family member, in a hospital away from home. On the news today they were saying how the good old British attitude of sticking together (like they did in WW2) to solve the flood issues was apparent in all of the areas affected.
This obviously does not work or apply if you also happen to have a nice house in a nice neighbourhood with lots of money and no connection to the forces. Looks like we need to take a good look at ourselves, even the Americans can look after their veterans, even if they dont agree with the war.
I fully support this initiative to help wounded members of the BRITISH Armed Forces and their FAMILIES

Thank you to everyone who's signed so far, whether with support or concerns. Special thanks to those of you who've linked to this site or the petition on other sites - the story is spreading far further and faster than we expected!
Obviously, if you haven't yet, head to the Help page and get signing or emailing MVDC as well. That's where the real difference is made

The greatest ignorance is to condemn something you know absolutely nothing about. Shame some were not intelligent enough to research the proposal objectively beforehand - and how embarrassing will this be for them when it's accepted?
