I had an accident whilst in service 8 years ago and thought my career was over. Due to the professionalism and dedication of the Headley Court (HC) staff, I made a full recovery. Although my injuries were trivial compared to the trauma suffered by recent casualties, I know how good HC is. Serving personnel who are injured need the quality of rehabilitation only provided by a military center (a direct quote from my civilian consultant) Those who are injured on active Service not only need the best this country can offer, Headley Court, but the support of their families and friends at what is probably the lowest point in all their lives. To refuse to allow this would be an injustice on a scale that I cannot put into words. Shame, Shame, Shame on the residents who have objected.

Well done for hightlighting this. We have signed the petition to Downing Street. I cant believe the residents narrow minded attitude - shame on you. Would they object to the house if a group of minorities moved in? I think not, they would be to scared.
Keep up the good work you have all our support.

I discovered your site by accident. As an ex-Royal Navy person I was disgusted and appalled at the attitude shown by those who oppose this facility for wounded servicemen. That such people, who presumably call themselved British can act in such a manner beggars belief. Keep the feet of those making the decision to the fire, I've followed your progress to date and hope and pray for your success. I was happy to sign the petition as an ex-pat and have notified my brother in the UK (ex-Royal Engineers) in case he has missed this scandalous affair.

Well done to everyone who is fighting for this facility to go go ahead. I live in the area and personally cannot believe that the residents of Grays Lane could be so selfish and narrow-minded.
All of their economic arguments regarding property values are utterly invalid: What the residents of Grays Lane don't seem to understand is that appreciate is that if anything, a grant of 'change of use' would actually enhance the value of surrounding properties since it would increase their attractiveness to developers who would demolish the one existing house and build ten executive rabbit hutches in its place. Should that happen, I'll bet there isn't a single resident who wouldn't sell up if the offer were attractive enough.
No. This is about pure snobbery, and nothing else. The residents of Ashtead don't want anyone who is 'Not Quite Our Class Darling' moving in. An utter, utter disgrace.

this is a noble project dont let it be spoiled or abandoned because of a few unstubstantiated and wholly selfish desires.

Just read all the additional comments that have been added since the first page. Thank you all for your support. I will be leaving Farlington in Pompey with my caravan on Sunday afternoon bound for a site near Ashtead. I will be helping out with leaflets etc and then attending Mole Council Offices at 7:00pm on Wed 1st August for the planning meeting. I would urge all the residents of Ashtead who have given their support to this application by SSAFA, to show their Councilors (whom you have elected!!!) that the majority of their constituants support the application by also attending the meeting. You may even like to turn up early and lobby them as they go in to the meeting.
I would also ask any others who could possibly make it to Ashtead on any day from Mon through Wednesday to help out to let it be known or just turn up for the meeting. We will have a few drinks somewhere afterwards.
The South Atlantic Medal Association 1982 [SAMA(82)]supports the Application

Congratulations to all concerned with supporting this marvelous venture. I served on an Ambulance Ship during the Falklands conflict helping to return home some seriously injured. This venture will allow the injured servicemen to have not only their mates around them for support but also there families. I wish it well.

Having spent time at Headley Court as a serving member of the Royal Air Force in the 90's I know from personal experience how hard it is for families to visit their loved ones who are trying to recover from some traumatic injuries. I was appauled to read some of the comments & objections from the residents of Grays Lane and surrounding areas. You should all be ashamed of yourselves! how typical of these upper class snobs who sit and quaff their Gin & T's drive their big fancy cars (with the use of all their limbs) comfy in their big expensive house!! God forbid the value of you're house should fall! what about the sacrifice these Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen have given, and for what? so YOU can live a life of luxury, in relative piece and tranquillity in your Surrey suburb in your own cocooned world! Give something back to those that deserve it, those that have given all for the likes of you selfish people, let them have their dignity, and the families have piece of mind that they can comfort their offspring without suffering more financial hardship in in the surrounds of 36 Grays Lane. Well done SSAFA for this intiative, and good luck for the future. Thankyou to all those serving in the Armed Forces that have given so much, may God be with you and get well soon. And to those who object, shame on you!
