It is difficult to believe just how selfish a small minority can be. They only live in their sheltered peaceful world because of the sacrifices of many thousands of people over the years. When serving in Aden I saw dead and severely wounded being unloaded from casevac aircraft. We now have our young men and women serving in Iraq and Afghanistan with some coming home in bodybags and others severely injured and to try and deny them a much needed facility is an absolute disgrace. This blinkered group should be ashamed of themselves, after all its not a night club that is proposed. They need to look at the real world. SUPPORT OUR SERVICEMEN/WOMEN

Something has to be done, and soon to help and support the families of those injured whilst serving their country.A family's presence during their healing period must help a great deal. Other countries provide accomodation why not us?

I am appalled by the ignorance and prejudiced attitude of local residents to the proposal for the home. I take exception to the objections they have raised, which quite simply are not pertinent with respect to the proposal.

I've signed the Downing Street petition and have posted the link on a BBC forum so that others can do the same.
This short of disgraceful nimbyism is utterly shameful and I wish you all the best; plus I shall be following the story which will hopefully end with the successful application etc.

Steve of Ashtead - Thank you for your very reasonable comment.
Rest assured that many of us have already looked at the property and I can inform you that 36 Grays Lane is a large house in generous well-screened grounds, set well back from the road and with plenty of off-road parking. It sits towards the end of Grays Lane and is well separated from other residences. I believe that SSAFA has looked at nine properties in the area and 36, Grays Lane fulfills its requirements most comprehensively.
As for the proposed change of use, there were no objections when the property was previously used as the Greenacres Montessori Nursery School despite the extra adult staff, children, noise, traffic, pollution, additional waste, and safety considerations this will have caused. For reasons unknown, this fact has been omitted from the planning report and its recommendation submitted to Mole Valley District Council's Development Control Committtee.
It is therefore surprising that objectors have only now raised these issues to oppose a change of use causing far less disruption than a nursery school.
Finally, there are no 'fitness' or legal stoppers arising from existing covenants, special residential area considerations (outside which Grays Lane falls in any case) or planning laws.

I can't write what I would really love to say about these selfish people, but you could bet your life savings that these so called people would be the first to call for Forces help if their precious homes were threatend by hostile forces or the recent floods we've experience, they make me sick!

I was a long term resident at DSRC Headley Court with a spinal injury. Having spent a long time there I actually ended up moving to and living in Ahtead for a long time. So as a veteran of both the centre and the village I fully support the motion for Grays Lane. It is sad, but it does not come as a surprise to me that the the majority of local residents object. I was reminded of their narrow minds and snobbery at every opportunity, especially as it is "SURREY YOU KNOW". I would love to get this motion through on both a personal and moral level. Please sign up !

The ungracious local residents should be marched round Headley Court to see the fantastic work done there, by staff and patients. I first saw HC when on the RAFSC Comnmand accounts team in the late 80s and was mazed by what I saw. I cannot believe that we have supposedly intelligent people putting loss of a mythical few grand in house value (which almost certainly would not happen (and is NOT a PLANNING ISSUE anyway)) before rehabilitation of those injured in service of their country. Shame on them. I strongl;y support the proposal
