For the residents! It seems strange that looked at from another point your objections actually agree with the need for the facility. You do not want these families on your street - they probably don't really want to go there they would rather be at home with their loved ones in one piece. You want to preserve the peace and tranquility of the area - where better than to come to terms with the situation the families are now in. Far better than a faceless hotel, a flat on your own, possibly with children in both cases or in the village center with traffic vandelism & fights outside pubs. Or an accomodation facility in the Hospital where you are reminded of your loved ones pain 24 hrs a day. You want a safe place for your children to play - what parent doesn't, what better for a young child to be distracted from a parents grief, they may even find other children to play with, a good way of promoting their development. you worry about noise - see point above, are you saying you don't make any?
So what is your objection, your needs are the same as the families?
I can't help wonder if there is a hidden agenda behind the residents objections to do with the property not the proposed use?

I'm sure someone else has already said it but there must have been a drop in the property prices in the area already because potential purchasers are a) not going to want the objectors as their neighbours and even worse b) are not going to want to risk being associated with the objectors. I have also served in Iraq and quite frankly if the planning application is turned down I will be wondering why I bothered. Somehow I can't imagine anyone in Iran objecting to a facility for recovering veterans in their country and being taken seriously!
Good work bringing this to the nation's attention.

As a guy who is about to go 'abroad' I hope I never visit! but I really support what you are doing. For too long the armed forces have been treated as second class citizens. Good luck and keep going.

Like many others I was shocked and dismayed at the extraordinary attitude of the "Ashstead 90". My sister-in-law lives in Ashstead and is a great admirer and supporter of the work done at Headley Court - these objectionable people are in a small but rather unpleasant minority.
The best of luck in this campaign.

Tina K: The overwhelming majority (about 99% to be exact) of Ashtead people that we have met have shown themselves to be decent, caring, compassionate people
Those few thoughtless individuals who objected, with their spurious reasons for doing so, are NOT representative of your village and I sincerely hope this is remembered by all concerned.
As for hitting them in the pocket, I'm afraid I cannot comment. Who you favour with your custom is your own business

It is a sad indictment that these selfish people, show so little respect and appreciation for other peoples sacrifice. Shame on them.

As the mother of 2 sons who have served in Iraq (one of them on 2 tours) and who have come home thankfully unscathed, I would be proud and delighted to have such a facility as my next-door neighbour. What a great chance to play some useful part in helping people who are going through hell in the service of their country - ie you and me, whether we like it or not.

Without wishing to 'pick on' any objector, I note that one of them is the principal of an eponymous estate agency in the area.
As a consequence, I have written to the character at his business address to advise him that if his company ever expects to receive instructions from myself, my family or my friends, that he is very much mistaken.
