Quote: All I would ask is that Clubs, Societies, Livery Companies etc. with ANY connection to the military look at the names and addresses of those who objected (these can easily be found on the council website under letters of representation, about the first 83) and asks their members 'do we want these type of people in our ranks?'
Camilla, Please do _not_ pick on the objectors. They have a perfect right to object... They also have a perfect right to lose thier objection.

As a former soldier with thirty six years service I am utterly staggered by the selfishness of the people who have objected to this proposal. Where in God's name would we be without the sacrifice of all these brave servicemen who always serve their country on active service and put their lives on the line every day. These objectors deserve to be sent to Iraq or Afghanistan for a month just to see what our servicemen and women have to cope with. These are the very worst type of British subjects - greedy, uncaring, selfish and totally self-centred.

Having picked up this from the AFF website, I have wiped up my tears, calmed my howls of outrage, signed the petition and e-mailed everyone in my address book to make them aware of the narrow mindedness that exists in the UK.
My only words to those FEW objectors is SHAME ON YOU.

Best of luck on the 1st, Sue you are the bravest of the brave.

WoW! Somebody show these folks What life is like in Iraq,Iran Afghanistan or any thrid world country....hhmmmsecret police..death for having an Opinion..try and tell the taliban they can't move next door and you would be shot where you stand. How selfish and Inhumane to protest a place to help service men and woman and ther families to get through tough times that face an Injured soldier. Perhaps its the thought of having to come face to face with an Injured soldier in the street for a walk with his children and seeing that he can no longer hug them or hold there hand. Instead of looking him/her in the eye and saying thankyou for all you have given, you cower and point and complain because there are a few new handicap parking spaces on your street and you might have to par a bit farther from you front door. AT LEAST YOU CAN STILL WALK TO YOUR FRONT DOOR!!!

This just what this country needs. The soldiers of this country have risked their lives for our queen and country. They MUST have somewhere like this to recover.
Would you say no to a childrens hospital????
These 'heros' deserve the same treatment.

I watch with great interest to see the outcome of this dispute. The final decision will say a great deal not only about the folk who live in Grays Lane but about the English nation as a whole. I trust that the local planning authorities have the collective backbone to overrule the objections of these unbelievably narrow and selfish 'citizens'.

I would be proud to have SSAFA, Headley Court in my road as I imagine would most residents.
Members of our armed forces have served this country in the name of freedom, shouldn't we assist them when they are unable?
Is it too much to support them and their families?

I was one of the first Junior rank patients transferred from JSMRU Chessington to Headley Court back in 1985 having spent 3 years on and off having surgery to my right leg. Throughout my stay at HC it was impractical during the 4 months of re-hab to have visitors come and stay to offer that moral support a young serviceman needs. I am somewhat surprised that it has taken over 20 years for a facility of the sort that SSAFA are trying to bring to HC to come to fruition but then given the Tory Governments wind down of military medical facilities it's not surprising. The residents of Ashstead should take a long hard look at themselves in a mirror and say "There but for the Grace of God go I"! It could be their children or relatives who will need a facility such as is proposed by SSAFA.

Over the 20 years that i spent in the Royal Air Force, I spent many months inthe first gulf war and in Bosnia.I thank God I was lucky and came home both mentally and physically in one piece.I for one give my complete support to the famillies and to the staff at headly court for the dedication that they give to all in the armed forces in their time of need.If there is to be a demonstration in the big smoke at anytime to highlite this problem, give me a call and i will give you my support and walk shoulder to shoulder with anyone else who feels the need to remind certain people of the sacrifice that service personnel and their families give without question, in the defence of this country , and to weeker countries around the world. Good Luck Everybody.
