Congratulations to the objecting residents of Ashtead on being crowned world super-heavyweight champions of Nimbyism. That in itself is quite an achievement, but the fact none of you could put your heads above the net curtains and attend the meeting shows a truly unique moral cowardice.
One practical tip - try removing all the mirrors in your wonderful homes - you wont have to endure looking at yourselves every morning.
To the Ashtead supporters of Grays lane, thank you for preserving the dignity of your community and supporting the servicemen and families who give the UK an unimaginable amount.

To all involved in making the SSAFA project at Gray's Lane my congratulatios on a job done well, with dignity in the face of ignorance.
To the objecting residents of Grays Lane, Ralliwood Road and others, I hope in time you are fully ashamed of your intolerant, selfish, and distinctly un-British behaviour. Your public silence speaks volumes.

I am chuffed that the issue has been resolved.
I am working on the "Warrior in Transition" initiative here in the US. There is a lot of press coverage here on the care of our wounded soldiers, especially after the exposure of the Walter Reed shortfalls.
As a veteran of H.M. Forces, I never expected to read of such shenanigans from the UK.
Thanks to all for their service.
Frank

Thank goodness for common humanity and common sense prevailing. More power to SSAFA and also especially to those determined people who got off their backsides to drum up our support. I am the wife of a fulltime career soldier, now retired, and mother of a serving soldier who recently spent 10 months in Afghanistan. From the time the SSAFA sister first visited me when I was pregnant more than 40 years ago, until the present day I have always appreciated their special qualities

Fantastic news - well done to all of those who campaigned positively for such a vital building/service. As the grandaughter/great neice and daughter of naval officers who served their country, I'm ashamed at the NIMBYism and selfishness of my fellow Surrey residents. Ann

I am delighted, what wonderful news. I have got everyone within my wide circle of friends to sign the Telegraph Petition and all did so gladly. Isn't it wonderful to have some good news.
Our very best wishes to all who will use this home and may it make the difference to everyones' recovery. I am so happy for you all.

I am delighted that commonsense has won through but I am disgusted that it was necessary for such a campaign to be needed in the first place.
It is doubtful that any of those who objected will ever see the home as anything other than a sully on their environment.
NIMBY's are a blight on our society. Too much money, too little sense.SSAFA, we love you!

How churlish can people be. The Servicemen have served their country well and in the process quite a considerable number have suffered unimagineable injuries. I have an open field at the rear of my rpoerty and I would not object if such a facility was built there. If a natural disaster visited the area where these people live then naturally they would not accept any help from the armed forces. Be thankful, you selfish people, that we have young men and women who are prepared to join the armed forces and are ready to suffer terrible injuries and, ultimately, the final sacrifice in order to maintain the freedom and democracy you are able to enjoy. They should be ashamed to show their faces in public
