For it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Chuck him out, the brute!" But it's "Saviour of 'is country," when the guns begin to shoot; An' it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' anything you please; But Tommy ain't a bloomin' fool - you bet that Tommy sees!

Whilst I signed the Downing street petition and sent e-mails to the local councillors I still felt somewhat sceptical regarding the result.Delighted my scepticism couldn't be more unjustified! An outcome like that is hardly likely to warrant an appeal. Hope everything is now plain sailing.

Congratulations to all, including all the supportive residents of Grays Lane, a great achievement. (I hope 'none of us' who ever have cause to use the property let-down the hard work that has gone into this achievement and give the complainants the chance to say 'I told you so'.)
Well done to all and a big Thank you to MVDC, for their clarity of view and foresight.

Congratulations to all on the Grays Lane Campaign team on this well deserved success. I'm sure the majority of Ashtead residents will be as supportive and as delighted by the outcome as we families of Headley Court residents - current and former - are. A pat on the back too for the BBC website. The article featuring Capt and Mrs Norton, with direct links to both the campaign and MVDC websites, no doubt contributed to public awareness of the planning application. I hope SSAFA build on this groundswell of support and use the website to publicise developments at the house (let's not call it a "hostel" - it will need to be a home from home for many families). I'm sure many who took the trouble to write, or sign the petition, will be interested in progress.

Robert Howell: Please be assured that at no time did anyone judge the whole of Ashtead by the actions of a few selfish people.
From the outset, it was clear that the overwhelming majority of people in the village were totally in support of SSAFA's application.
Of the people we met and spoke to on the streets, around 99% wanted the Council to make the decision it did on Wednesday. Many villagers wrote to the Council supporting SSAFA and I'm certain this local support gave much needed extra weight to the application. Thank You.
Ashtead has a long history of supporting our Armed Forces. Ashtead Potteries may be long gone but the need for support remains. We hope that 36 Gray's Lane will become a real part of the local community. The support of people like yourself will help immensely in achieving that and for that you have our deepest thanks.
It's over to you and good people like you now. Please do Ashtead proud!

I was beginning to wonder if there was any common sense and decency left in this country. I see that there is. Best Wishes Bill ( ex blue job )

It's Great news that common sense has prevailed in this delicate situation. The family unit is so important, and we must do all in our power to keep it together, more so, when the people in question are Armed Forces personnel injured be in body or mind. We have them to thank for our Freedom.

Please dont judge us on a few selfish bastards. Remember the councillors went against the planning officers advice (voting 17-0), in part by the magnificent campaign by you guys but also in some part to the strength of support in the village.
You've made the right decision to move to Ashtead because of its strong sense of community. Everyone I have spoken to is delighted (and I mean really delighted) with the result ... and I've no doubt that whatever support is needed in the setting up and running of Number 36 the village wont be found lacking. Please put us to the test... you have my email.

I also was a member of the Blue Team on Wednesday handing out leaflets at Tesco in Leatherhead. I would personally like to thank the management and and especially the Tesco staff who made made us welcome.
The residents we met where all very friendly and concerned about our campaign. They have changed my belief that the Great British Public really don't care about our forces. I now realise that the vast majority do care and are prepared to voice their opinions.
To the residents of Grays Lane, in time you'll realise what a great honour it is to have this facility on your doorstep. The visitors are good people, no doubt like yourselves who have unfortunately been mis-informed.
To Dolly, HydraJoe, Stilts everyone else on Blue Team, especially PTP it was great to be able to help out with you all. Hopefully we never have to do anything like this again, but if we do then don't hesitate to ask for help.

People in this country make me laugh. Its about time ALL citizens of this nation respected the efforts of our great military forces. Admin reply: I couldn't agree more. So many people like those who pass through Headley Court have given Great Britain the privileges they have now that what it takes to have those privileges has been forgotten. Britain needs to know what a little "hardship" is again before they realize what the military have, and continue to give, them: An easy life compared to many in this world.
