Like Piers I am also sad, angry and ashamed. I will go one step further. I am sickened to the core of my being to think that this is what has become of our country and that people like these exist. Are we now so insular that we no longer care for the very people who give us the freedoms that we take for granted. Tony and Christine Grove have hit it on the head when they ask if these people would refuse help from our boys and girls in the forces were they to be the victims of a natural disaster, or worse. Perhaps we have the wrong meaning for NIMBY! How's about - No! I'm Better Than You!

These NIMBY people seem to forget its the servicemen and women who have fought to give them the freedom to complain. Would they dare to complain if the location was changed to IRAQ before the demise of Saddam Hussein?? shame on them!!

Lisa you said:''Please don't take this the wrong way but the people who reside in Grays Lane & the surrounding areas have paid a premium to live where they do. You can't blame them for wanting to maintain a quiet & tranquil neighbourhood. Some of your comments are a little harsh & unfair to these people who have had to deal with a lot of backlash over this. I'm sure they have nothing against your organisation personally & no doubt some of the elder residents have most probably served in the forces. Please try & see it from their point of view.'' Sadly the residents of Headley Court have paid a significantly higher premium - their well being. If your friends had not had a knee j*** reaction to a wonderful idea they would have had to deal with no backlash at all. I can have no feelings for them except utter contempt. If they had read the SSAFA proposal they would have seen that what is wanted is a quiet peaceful location-not so that the families can destroy it but so that they can recover in peaceful surroundings. They are hardly going to ruin the surroundings with noise etc. It would be counter productive. If the residents wish the villifacation to stop then they only have to withdraw their objections - which I urge them to do most strongly. you sound like a nice person so chat to them and let them see the error of their ways

The objections to this development are a particularly unpleasant example of a selfish 'Not-In-My-Back-Yard' mentality. I wish you all the best with your campaign.

I think that to object to such a proposal is unforgivable, I hope our armed forces realise that most of the British people have the utmost respect for them. If you lived near me I would go out of my way to make you a cupper or help in any way. I hope your plan for this project is a success.

Lest We Not Forget Those Who Have Borne The Brunt Of Battle. Who in the darkest hours of History have been the ones who picked up the Torch left to us by the Valent forces which have come before us and marched forward to answer Bravely their Countries Call. Not questioning but Doing. You may sleep safe tonight as a direct result of your servicemen being on the job. Please Be there for Them, They that put their Country before their self.

The planning officer's report dismisses almost all the residents' objections, but in the end recommends that the councillors should refuse the application if they believe that the change of use will adversely affect the peace and quiet of the neighbourhood. In strict planning terms, WHICH IS ALL THAT THE PLANNING OFFICER CAN TAKE ACCOUNT OF, she is right to make this recommendation. If the councillors do their job properly, they will have visited the site before the meeting, have read the letters for and against and should make their decision after an unemotional debate about the points made on both sides. They, too, can only make that decision on planning grounds, whatever they may personally think about the need for the accommodation. If I were one of them I would come down in favour of APPROVING the application, on the grounds that it would be perfectly legal for one family of 14 to move into the house--and a permanent family that big would have a far worse effect on the neighbours' peace and quiet than the smaller SSAFA family groups moving through (think of how many teenagers there would be in a family of 14)! One good thing is that if the application is refused, SSAFA will have a right of appeal to the Planning Inspectorate; if it's approved, the objectors don't have that right.

How very depressing to know how heartless, selfish and irrational some people can be. It seems that the wealthier and more fortunate people are, the less compassion they have for their fellow human-beings - to think that these ignorant swine are prepared to turn their backs on those who have defended our country and our comfortable lifestyle just beggars belief. Would they refuse help from Service personnel if they were affected by a disaster, such as the recent floods? No, I thought not. But they'd be the first to complain if they didn't get preferential treatment. We sincerely hope that decency prevails and that MVDC doesn't give in to pressure from these Lord and Lady Mucks.
