The forces personnel and their families at Headley Court have already paid a premium to be there and it is a far higher price than any resident has paid for their house in Grays Lane.
If only the 83? residents who have sent letters of objection, would volunteer the same ammount of their time to help at Headey Court or with SSAFA. They may then understand exactly why this facility is so desperately needed. Further more, they would also meet the thoroughly decent partners/families who are supporting their loved one at such a difficult time and come to understand what a miniscule impact 36 Grays Lane will have on the 'quality of life' for the rest of Grays Lane residents.
Forces families live in peaceful, quiet communities. We're vigilant of any unusual activity, look out for each other and the very few crimes which occur tend to be caused by those who live outside of our community. Even with a 'tiny ammount' of increased traffic, we would be perfect residents which most areas would welcome with open arms. I am staggered to hear the perception of an increased terrorist target. I have children and, as a result of my Husbands work, I regularly live alone. Do these residents think my children and I are at a heightened risk? If so, do they plan to write to their MP to support us?
These people should be ashamed of themselves. I am astonished and I now wonder if our country deserves our Forces?
If my husband had to reside at the rehabilitation centre, the only sound the residents would hear from my children and I would be our sadness. I wish the best of luck to SSAFA and all the forces personnel concerned.

Reading in the press, the conditions that our forces have to fight in and the treatment that they get from the Government is unforgivable, especially on the medical front. Give them this Home.

Please continue to carry the 'fight for right' forward. The disgust expressed towards those pompous, arrogant snobs is a feeling felt by many many concerned people. How dare they oppose anything that helps our soldiers recuperate after serving in places, which I can assure you would make them wet themselves at the very thought of having to go. The idea that it would increase noise and traffic is utterly ludicrous and is a fascard to the real concerns that it will lower their house value, or demean what they feel is an up market area. It makes me wonder if they would be so vehimently opposed if it were their sons and daughters who required this kind of help. Shame on them, I say again please continue to carry the 'fight for right' forward.

I cannot believe that we have people, who can be so selfish. I wonder how they would behave if we had another 1939, perhaps put their head in sand and hope it will go away. Keep at it I am sure we will overcome their bigotary

Lisa,
SSAFA held several (I beleieve) meetings where people could come and chat. The meetings had low turn out, and at least one letter of objection described the presentation as (And I quote) "well polished" but still objected to the idea

It is an absolute disgrace that the local reidents should object to this project. Our servicemen risk their lives every day to protect their freedom, they should hang their heads in shame. It is only through their devotion and sacrifice that they live in a free society.

I'm not sure if this has already been broached but what if the residents & members of the SSAFA were to hold a public meeting, maybe if the residents concerns were answered face to face rather than via MVDC etc it might ease some concerns, or is it too late for this? has this situation already reached the point of no return. Admin reply: Lisa,
First of all, thank you for using the book to try and have an open discussion about the matter. If the appliaction does succeed then that, to be honest, will be far more productive for everyone than a thousand messages of goodwill.
I seem to have lost one of your posts, for which I apologise. If you wish to re-make any of the points in it please do so and I'll try to get my IT skills up to speed! Perhaps better communication could have happened before now to alleviate concerns but what's done is, unfortunately, done.
I know it's not quite what you meant but, if you can make it to the planning meeting on Wednesday, you'll at least be able to see the people who're supporting the application. Any there linked to our campaign (look for the group round Capt & Mrs Norton!) will be pretty representative of the people likely to have need of the facility. Perhaps they, more than anything, will help to assuage your concerns

Well done to you for instigating this webpage. I'm disgusted that the residents of Grays Lane seem to think they are so aloof that it will never happen to them. I hope these NIMBYs sleep well at night while our Armed Forces are being bombed and shot at. This isn't a refugee camp thats being set up but a family respite centre for families under a great deal of emotional stress. As a former soldier I whole-heartedly support your cause and hope that the government ignores these rather callous objections to your plans.
Good luck.

I wholeheartedly support your campaign. I also wish to extend my sincere thanks to those who continue to provide my family and friends with a blanket of security under which we can live our lives. I wish you every success.

I have managed Houses of this sort for two Charities for the last 16 years and unfortunately have come across this sort of prejudice each time at the planning stage. However as soon as the Houses are set up and those same neighbours invited to the opening and to visit when they wish, then they have realised that the residents are a better bet than a family with several teenage children! The guests are too stressed and tired to have wild parties, in fact usually they are not in the House through the day at all, as they are with their loved ones. The truly sad situation is that it is Charity that has to provide these facilities, and not the Government who should be doing all they can to help these people who have literally given their all for their country.
