Read the article on Ashtead find it difficult to believe that there are still narrow minded people in the world who think only of their selves and home comforts. Who have no compassion for their fellow man, many of whom have been injured in the line of duty to ensure that the people who object to Ashtead retain their civil liberties. A right not afforded to many of our fellow human beings around the world.
Those objectors need to stop, think and be proud to welcome Ashtead into their community. Please think of it as a small contribution of support to our men amd women of the armed forces.

Were it not for Headley Court my son in law would probably not have worked again. The accommodation my daughter stayed in was adequate on the site but, with a place like the Grays Lane site they could have stayed together, albeit for the odd weekend but it would have been a boost to both of them. The objectors of Grays Lane are not worthy of these service personnel, who after all serve them as well.

Barbara,
Thank you for your comments, and I echo .Dolly's post.
If other ARA members could let their feelings be known to Mr. Le Versha, on their support of this application , it would be of great help.
We'd very much like to talk to Mr. Le Versha about withdrawing the ARA's objection intoto.
I believe that he acted initially, in what he thought was the best interests of Ashtead residents "Based on the information given to him" by person or persons unknown.
He has since realised I would hope, that the vast majority of his flock do not feel the same.
The paradox between the excellent support on the Epsom Hospital appeal, and objecting to SSAFA planning I would hope is obvious to him by now.
It certainly is to a lot of his members, and the wider world.
We welcome the comments of Chris Grayling MP in wishing to have this facility in his constituency , and welcome SSoSFD Dr. Liam Fox's intervention to MVDC in support of Grayling's initial statement.
Once again,on behalf of all of us involved, our very sincere thanks to the vast majority of Ashtead residents , who have demonstrated in the last few days, their continuing and wholehearted support for the men and women of our Armed Forces, and their families.

What a disgrace to the sacrifices made by our young servicemen and women. I would like those who object to this proposal think, what if it was their son or daughter needing this kind of support, how much would they change their minds?
As an ex-force member myself and seeing what these members needs at first hand, the government should support this application 100%, not leave to a forces charity (No offence)to receive all this hassle.
Go for it, you have my full support.

The way we treat our wounded and damaged troops is a disgrace and the residents of Grays Lane should be ashamed.

To Barbara in Ashead:
Thank you, Barbara, for your comment and support on the 36 Grays Lane guestbook. As a member of yesterday's Blue Team I have first hand experience of the kind and compassionate residents of Ashtead in respect of this sensitive issue and we at ARRSE are in absolutely no doubt of the integrity of the majority of Ashtead residents; rest assured you remain untainted. Much respect and thanks to you for making your voice heard, both on here and at MVDC.

Oh dear. I wonder what the Ashtead RA exit strategy is? Perhaps they might like to just say "We're sorry, we made a terrible mistake". You never know they might salvage some respect - service people tend to appreciate it when someone who has messed up takes responsibility for their actions.
And as for the MP's letter, well, I'm sure he just sits in a lonely room contemplating how utterly spineless he is.

Can't believe that there are such snobs residing in this country, who can't feel sympathy&empathy for the relatives of our armed forces wounded in battle. My late parents used to say it was only the presence of the British Army that made living in Northern Ireland possible during the years of terrorism. The residents of Grays Lane might like to remember this is a Christian country, try and act the good Samaritan not the Pharisee

Having read the documentation from both sides regarding this application, I can see no reason to object to this development. On the contrary, it is clearly an excellent idea to be able to provide accommodation of this sort for the families of those injured whilst in the service of our country. I feel that as a well off and well blessed community we should be happy and proud to locate such a facility in our midst. I am appalled by some of the issues raised by the objectors. I am so unhappy that the Ashtead RA sent an objection to the Families Centre proposal that I am resigning my membership after 20 years. I am ashamed of the reputation that Ashtead is gaining in the national press as a result of albeit a small minority of objectors. Please don't think we are all snobbish nimbys! I have emailed the councillors and hope that the Council will find in favour of the supporters and will grant the planning application.
